“But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:43-45 NASB

You can either surrender to your circumstances and become down in the dumps with a poor me attitude, or surrender to a purpose that is so great that your circumstances won’t matter. When you surrender to a purpose, it doesn’t matter what’s happening around you. You can have a good day or a bad day but the purpose never dies. A strong sense of purpose motivates you and helps you to keep on track. The greatest example of one who had a strong sense of purpose was Jesus Christ who said, “Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant.” The very core of our purpose is to serve and give to others. Lay it all down, your skills, your talent, everything God has gifted you with. It’s really about bringing value to someone else’s life. Value is like a fine thread that weaves in and out through the course of a day’s time in all that you do and encounter. Here is the question. If you are a businessperson, a spouse, a parent or grandparent, are you truly following Jesus? He is your model. I John 2:4 tells you that anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived. The very core of serving and giving is to love one another. If you are really loving one another, then you’re serving and giving with right motives.
