Since 2016, Dr. Allan McCord and his staff have been volunteering every 2 or 3 months with Gateway Medical Alliance. Dr. McCord closes his office on those mornings and he and his staff show up onsite to pack up boxes of medical supplies that will then be shipped to countries that need them. Afterward, they then head out to a staff lunch meeting.

Dr. McCord has this to say:

“Our experience in volunteering and serving at Gateway Medical Alliance has been wonderful. It is something our staff looks forward to, contributing to every few months. Giving to people that you will never meet is one of the greatest and most generous things you can do because you won’t receive anything back from them. This gift can only go one way. Our staff looks forward to it and is energized on the day we contribute.  We ask our practice members to contribute as well and they are rewarded.

When hiring new staff members we always speak about this opportunity and every candidate is impressed that we commit to this.

We get a chance to build friendships with other volunteers that show up at the same time we do.
Because of our commitment to the effort, other volunteers have sought our services and referred us to their family and friends.

This has been a very rewarding experience of giving back.”

As you can see, not only does the non-profit benefit from businesses getting involved in volunteering, but the business itself is also transformed. There is something about serving others that can shift a person’s focus to gratitude.
