“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
Mark 4:35-39 (NKJV)
How well are you handling the storms in your life? As we look to the scriptures, when in the storm, the disciples thought surely they were going to drown, but they forgot something. Jesus was in the boat. He had said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” In other words, they were going to make it to the other side regardless of their circumstances. This story also tells us that Jesus had been resting so they woke Him up and He rebuked the wind and rough sea and it became calm. As long as the disciples assumed control of their situation, Jesus rested. But when they cast their care on Him and turned over the controls to Him, He took care of everything and they could rest. As business leaders, you need to be reminded that, yes, you must take responsibility, but you must never take control. This control thing belongs to God. So, this is how it works: You care and Jesus rests. Jesus cares and you rest.
