“Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health,

just as your soul prospers.”

3 John 1:2 (NASB)

Prosperity in all respects and good health are so often dependent on how healthy our soul is – our mind, our will, and our emotions. One of the biggest struggles that we have is with our emotions, this thing called fear. Now obviously we know there’s a good kind of fear. For instance, if a poisonous snake is about to bite us, we’re probably going to get out of the way. That’s what we call a healthy fear. Unhealthy fears are fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the unknown, fears that I’m not enough for a situation etc. How then should we deal with these unhealthy fears? Many times we hear people say, “You just need more faith and you will overcome fear.” Well then, how do I increase my faith? Romans 10:17 NASB tells us, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” So in practical terms we take the Word of God and what it says about fear and we declare the scriptures over the situation that we may be fearful about. The following are a few examples for you to start declaring:

  1. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (JB Phillips)
  2. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4 (NASB)
  3. “For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, who says to you, ‘ Do not fear, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 (NASB)
  4. “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NASB)
  5. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread.” Psalm 27:1 (NASB)

You can take any emotion of your soul that you might be struggling with and do the same thing that you just did with fear – declare God’s word over it.
