Getting to know Doug Hanson
Doug has had the opportunity to express his faith in several ways during his life, taking him around the world while pursuing different endeavors. His faith journey began when he trusted Christ as his savior in college, eventually pursuing an MBA and working overseas in Germany for six years where his faith matured through interdenominational Bible studies.
Upon returning to the States and working for NASA in Maryland, he started part-time studies for a Master of Divinity at a local seminary. Nine years later, upon completing his studies, Doug quit his job at NASA and moved his young family to Papua New Guinea in the south Pacific where he served as a missionary, teaching at a Bible college.
While teaching students in Papua New Guinea, he was faced with the challenge of teaching biblical truth in a different culture, which led him to pursue a Doctorate of Intercultural Studies and write his dissertation on relevant ways of presenting Christ within a tribal context.
After fifteen years overseas, Doug returned to the States and began ministry at Indian Bible College in Arizona, where he taught and served as Director of Development for three years. As the primary fund-raiser for the college, Doug encouraged folks to generously partner financially with the college to train future Native American Christian leaders.
Doug then returned to Idaho to be nearer extended family and began a career with Christian Wealth Management as a Christian financial advisor, focusing on Biblically Responsible Investing (for example, not investing in companies that profit from abortion products). He serves on the board of Lifeline Pregnancy Care Center, helping in fund-raising for the ministry, and serves on the board of True Hope Church, helping lead a capital campaign for a new education wing. Doug also facilitates one-day Journey of Generosity (JOG) seminars, encouraging Christians to be generous stewards of the blessings God has given them.
Doug and Jan have been married 41 years and have three grown children and four grandchildren. Doug deeply appreciates the support of Jan, and her adventurous spirit, on his journey of expressing his faith.
