“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14 (NASB)

It has been said that determination gives you the resolve to keep going despite the roadblocks that lie before you. Determination is not the absence of obstacles—it is the refusal to let obstacles decide your future. Anyone can start strong, but determination is what carries you through when the path gets steep, lonely, or unclear.

The apostle Paul understood this well. He didn’t say, “I drift,” or “I wait,” or “I hope things improve.” He said, “I press on.” That language is active. Intentional. Determined. Paul had setbacks, pain, rejection, and hardship—but he would not allow those things to define his direction. Determination kept him moving forward toward God’s call.

Vince Lombardi once said, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” Determination is the will to rise again. It is choosing discipline over comfort, perseverance over quitting, obedience over excuses.

John Maxwell reminds us, “Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.” Determination is not one heroic moment—it is daily faithfulness. It’s showing up again. Praying again. Believing again. Doing the next right thing, even when yesterday was hard.

Here’s the encouragement today: the roadblocks in front of you are not signs to stop—they are invitations to grow stronger. God often uses resistance to build resolve. What feels like opposition may actually be preparation. So don’t measure your life by how easy the road is. Measure it by your willingness to keep pressing forward. Stay determined. Keep your eyes on the prize. God honors those who refuse to quit, and determination—anchored in faith—will always move you toward His purposes.
