“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13–14 (NASB)
Every one of us carries moments we wish we could redo—words we shouldn’t have spoken, choices we wish we had made differently, seasons that still whisper regret. But here’s the good news: God is not limited by your past. He specializes in new beginnings.
The apostle Paul understood this deeply. Before he became one of the greatest leaders of the early church, he persecuted Christians. If anyone had a résumé of failure, shame, and regret, it was Paul. Yet he refused to let his past define his future. He didn’t deny what happened—but he also didn’t live imprisoned by it.
Paul said, “One thing I do…” That’s powerful. He made a deliberate decision to stop staring in the rearview mirror and start reaching forward by faith. Not by willpower alone—but by grace. You can’t go back and rewrite yesterday. But by God’s mercy, you can begin again today. Grace doesn’t just forgive—it empowers. Grace doesn’t erase your story—it redeems it. And grace always moves you forward.
Right now, wherever you are, this moment can be a holy turning point. God is not finished with you. He’s calling you upward, onward, and forward. Lay down the weight of what was and take hold of what can be. In Christ, your failure is never final—and your best days are still ahead.
