“For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 (NASB)

As Christmas Day approaches, our hearts carry a mixture of joy and weariness. The pace of the season, the expectations, the memories—some beautiful, some painful—can leave us feeling stretched thin. But into moments just like these, God speaks a word so powerful, so steadying, that it breaks through the noise of December: “For a Child will be born to us.”

Christmas is God saying, “I see you. I know what you’re carrying. And I’m stepping into it with you.” Isaiah paints four names—four facets of who Jesus is—that speak straight into the places where life feels heavy.

He is our Wonderful Counselor.
When confusion swirls and decisions weigh on us, Jesus doesn’t just offer advice—He offers Himself. Max Lucado said, “You don’t need to have the answer. You just need to trust the One who does.” In Christ, we have guidance that is perfect, patient, and always personal.

He is our Mighty God.
Whatever feels too big, too broken, or too far gone is not bigger than the God who stepped into a manger. Corrie ten Boom once wrote, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.” The Mighty God comes not to intimidate but to lift, to strengthen, and to fight for you.

He is our Eternal Father.
In a world filled with temporary solutions and fading comforts, He is the One who never leaves, never changes, never withdraws His affection. His love is not seasonal—it is forever.

And He is our Prince of Peace.
Not the fragile peace that depends on circumstances, but the deep, anchoring peace that holds us even when circumstances don’t change. A peace that quiets the soul and steadies the heart.

This Christmas, may you remember:

  • You are not walking alone.
  • You are not without wisdom.
  • You are not without strength.
  • You are not without love.
  • And you are never without peace.

The Child given to us is God’s promise for us. And His name still carries power today—power to comfort, to heal, to guide, and to fill your heart with hope that outlasts every storm. So as Christmas draws near, breathe deeply: The Wonderful Counselor walks with you. The Mighty God fights for you. The Eternal Father loves you. And the Prince of Peace guards your heart. May His presence settle over you like a warm blanket of glory this Christmas—reminding you that because He came, everything has changed.
