“Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent, and they will receive an inheritance that lasts forever. They will not be disgraced in hard times; even in famine they will have more than enough.”
Psalm 37:18–19 (NLT)
Have you ever found yourself in a season of leanness—financially, emotionally, or spiritually—wondering where God is in the middle of it all? Maybe you’re walking through a tough quarter in business, or you’re feeling stretched thin trying to meet the needs of your family or your team. The question comes: Where is God in this?
Psalm 37 reminds us that God is not absent in lean times. In fact, it says, “They will not be disgraced in hard times; even in famine they will have more than enough.” That’s not a suggestion—it’s a promise.
We often assume God’s favor only looks like abundance, but sometimes His provision looks like sustaining grace when things are tight. He’s the God who multiplies loaves and fish. The God who sends manna in the wilderness. The God who whispers, “My grace is sufficient for you.” Max Lucado put it this way: “God never said that the journey would be easy, but He did say that the arrival would be worthwhile.” These lean times are not the end of your story—they’re simply chapters in a bigger narrative of God’s faithfulness.
So today, speak His Word over your situation. Say out loud: “My God will supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Not according to the market. Not according to your current bank account. But according to His riches. You are not forgotten. You are not forsaken. Even in famine, you will have more than enough—because the same God who provided for David, for the disciples, and for generations of believers… is providing for you.
