“Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.”
Ephesians 6:13 (NASB)
Every day brings new challenges. Some are expected—on our calendar, in our inbox, or waiting at the office door. Others blindside us—a diagnosis, a disappointment, a discouragement. Paul knew this when he wrote to the Ephesians. He didn’t say if the evil day comes—he said when. So, he urges us to be prepared—daily. To put on the full armor of God each morning, just as surely as we get dressed or grab a cup of coffee. John Maxwell once said, “The secret of your success is determined by your daily agenda.” Preparation isn’t occasional—it’s intentional. It’s waking up and deciding today will be a day lived with purpose, in the power of the Holy Spirit.
What does that look like? It means beginning in the Word, anchoring ourselves in truth. It means we pray not just for blessings, but for strength, wisdom, and courage. It means we walk out the door with faith—not fear—knowing the One who is in us is greater than the challenge ahead. John Piper put it this way: “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.” When our strength and satisfaction come from Christ—not our circumstances—we stand firm even when the winds howl.
If you’re facing something tough today, know this: God saw it coming. He’s not surprised, and He’s not unprepared. And because He’s with you, you don’t need to be unprepared either. Suit up. Lean into Him. And stand your ground. Victory doesn’t always mean the absence of conflict. Sometimes, it simply means you didn’t quit. And by His grace—you won’t.
