“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”
(Habakkuk 2:2-3, ESV)

These words speak deeply to us today. The first thing God tells Habakkuk is to “write the vision”—to make it clear and plain. God has a purpose, a plan, and a future for each of us as he tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 (NASB1995, “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

We may not always see it immediately, it’s crucial to write it down, hold onto it, and believe that God’s promises are sure. Sometimes the journey between the promise and its fulfillment can seem forever. We might grow weary, impatient, or discouraged as we wait for God’s timing. But in these verses, God is reminding us that His promises are always on time, even when they don’t align with our schedule.

Verse 3 says, “If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come.” This is all about the heart of faith—trusting that God’s plan, no matter how delayed it may seem to us, is perfect and is unfolding in ways we cannot always understand. Our waiting is not wasted; it is part of God’s process. And when the appointed time comes, the vision will be fulfilled in ways we never imagined.

God calls us to trust Him, even when we can’t see the full picture. The vision He gives us may take time to come to pass, but we can hold onto the truth that it will come. His timing is perfect, His plan is trustworthy, and His faithfulness endures forever. I love what Max Lucado says, “God’s timing is always perfect. Trust His delays. Trust His timing. Trust His purpose.”

So, friends, whatever you’re waiting on today, whatever vision or promise God has placed in your heart, know this: It will come. It will not delay.

Action Step:
TRUST in His perfect timing. LEAN into His strength and know that He is faithful to complete the good work He has started in you.
