“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB1995)

In the world of business, discouragement can be an inevitable part of the journey. Whether it’s a tough season, a failed project, or a setback. It is so easy to feel overwhelmed and disheartened. But as Christian business leaders we have a unique source of strength and encouragement to draw upon during these challenging times. The following are three action steps you can take that will help.

  1. God Is With Us Every Step of the Way

In times of discouragement, remember that God’s presence is with us. Psalm 34:18 (NASB) says, “God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit.” No matter the difficulty, we are not alone. God’s support and guidance are available, and His presence is a constant source of strength.

  1. Focus on God’s Promises, Not Your Problems

When facing challenges, it’s vital to shift our focus from our problems to God’s promises. Philippians 4:6-7 (NASB) says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. As we trust Him and seek His peace, we are empowered to keep moving forward in faith, knowing that God is in control. I love what Max Lucado says in his book, “You’ll Get Through This.”  He writes about how God can use life’s difficulties for growth. He encourages Christians to trust in God’s sovereignty, even during business setbacks. Lucado suggests that during challenging times, we should focus on God’s presence and promises rather than our immediate circumstances, knowing that God is using trials to shape us.

  1. The Power of Community in Encouragement

Business setbacks can feel isolating, but Proverbs 27:17 (NASB) says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another,” reminding us that we need one another. Seek support from fellow believers who can offer prayer, wisdom, and perspective. God uses community to help us stay grounded in His will and stay encouraged during challenging times.

In summary, as Christian business leaders, we must trust that God is with us, focus on His promises, and surround ourselves with a supportive community. With His strength, even the toughest seasons of business can lead to growth and hope.
