“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,”
Colossians 3:23 (NASB)
We all know making a profit is good, but how we make it matters. When we run our businesses with integrity and excellence, success follows. I like what John Maxwell says about the importance of leading with integrity and excellence. He emphasizes that integrity is the foundation of effective leadership, stating, “Integrity is the factor that determines which one will prevail.” He also highlights the importance of consistency in leadership, noting that “people depend on leaders to follow through on promises made, deadlines assigned, and standards of excellence.”
Here are three ways to do this:
- Be honest and transparent – Your reputation is your greatest asset.
- Deliver quality and value – Excellence attracts customers and opportunities.
- Treat people well– Employees, partners, and customers should feel respected and valued.
Think of “Chick-fil-A” – they are profitable and purpose-driven. They don’t compromise their values for short-term gain, and because of that, they have built a business that is both successful and respected.
Action Step:
Identify one area where your business can grow in integrity, excellence, or customer service.
