“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

This verse reminds us that courage isn’t just a feeling—it’s a command from God, rooted in His promise to be with us. When God called Joshua, He was stepping into big shoes. He was to lead a nation into uncharted territory. It wasn’t easy, and fear was a real temptation. But God didn’t tell Joshua to muster up enough courage from his own strength. Instead, He reminded him that courage comes from knowing who is with you. The presence of the Lord is what transforms fear into faith and hesitation into boldness.

Developing a courageous spirit starts with trusting God’s promises over your fears. Fear will whisper in your ear for the test that you’re inadequate, that the challenges are too great, or that failure is inevitable. But courage reminds you that God has already equipped you for the task He’s called you to. As 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Courage grows as we step out in faith, one step at a time. Maybe you’re facing something right now that feels overwhelming—a decision, a calling, or an obstacle. Remember, God doesn’t expect you to have all the answers or to be perfect. He simply asks you to take that first step, trusting that He will go before you.

Hold onto this promise today: God will not leave you or forsake you. Step forward boldly, because the One who called you is faithful, and He is with you wherever you go.
