“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”
Colossians 3:12-13 (ESV)

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. It was Mark Twain who said, “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” Cassidy Jakovickas writes about why kindness in the workplace is more important than ever. He says, “Fostering kindness in the workplace has become more important than ever. Embracing a culture of kindness can bring numerous benefits to employees and the organization as a whole. From boosting employee morale and enhancing teamwork to promoting personal growth and improving customer satisfaction, the power of kindness should not be underestimated.”

He gives these benefits:

  1. It can significantly boost employee morale.
  2. It fosters a sense of belonging and mutual respect among colleagues, which encourages them to work more effectively as a team.
  3. According to the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, being generous and kind improves our own sense of well-being.

4.A company that promotes and practices kindness in the workplace is more likely to have a positive reputation, both internally and externally.

  1. Demonstrating kindness at work can diffuse tension and resolve conflicts between colleagues, leading to a more harmonious work environment.
  2. Leaders who demonstrate kindness and empathy are more likely to inspire trust and loyalty among their team members. This can lead to improved communication, greater alignment on goals, and a stronger sense of commitment to the organization’s success.

Here are just a few examples of what you might think of doing in your workplace:

  1. Bring coworkers a special gift.
  2. Have a Charity Day at work with employees bringing nonperishable food items to donate to those in need in the community.
  3. Give the gift of your smile and pay a compliment at least once a day.
  4. Write a note to a mentor or someone who has influenced your life in a positive way.
  5. Give a hug to a friend.

There is a final thought that I leave you with:
When you wake up every day you are faced with many choices. One thing you can choose to do is speak words of kindness wherever you go. I pray that you make that right choice and in doing so, brighten someone’s day.
