”And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.“
Galatians 6:9 (RSV)
Whatever the task might be in business or your personal life, it’s going to take determination. Determination has been defined as purposing to accomplish right goals at the right time regardless of opposition. Colin Powell says, “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.” It has also been said that determination gives you the resolve to keep going in spite of the roadblocks that lay before you. And it was Vince Lombardi former longtime coach of the Green Bay Packers that said, “The price of success and hard work, dedication to the job at hand and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.”
Here are a couple of testimonies of success in peoples’ lives. Walt Davis was totally paralyzed by polio when he was nine years old, but he did not give up. He became the Olympic high jump champion in 1952. Johnny Fulton was run over by a car at the age of three. He suffered crushed hips, broken ribs, a fractured skull, and compound fractures in his leg. It did not look as if he would live. But he would not give up. In fact, he later ran the half mile less than two minutes.
I want to suggest five action steps that will help you along this journey of determination.
- Set some goals
- Make sure your goals are measurable and accomplishable.
- Do not allow yourself to get off on rabbit trails. in other words, keep focused.
- Face problems head on.
- Don’t listen nor surround yourself with negative people.
- Pray for wisdom and discernment in your business.
