“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NASB1995)
You set the mood and the attitude of your business. If you want an atmosphere and culture where everyone enjoys coming to work – an atmosphere that is uplifting, exciting, filled with hope, joy, and respect for one another – it starts with you as a leader. You must choose to be joyful, to give thanks in every situation, and pray continually.
I call this the PB&J of business. The first slice of bread is to be joyful always. We all know that’s tough. The second slice of bread is to give thanks in all circumstances. This can be even tougher. This is where your faith needs to kick in because feelings just want to take over.
But what’s missing? What’s going to enable you and me to walk in faith and not be controlled by our feelings? Well, here it is – the PB&J – praying continually. What does praying continually mean? It means you’re constantly aware of His presence, asking Him for His help, His direction, and for His guidance throughout the day. This is when you ask God to take charge of your attitude and help you walk by faith and not feelings. He will change your thinking. It was Watchman Nee who said “Our prayers lay the track down which God’s power can come. Like a mighty locomotive, his power is irresistible, but it cannot reach us without rails.”
