“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Romans 6:12-14 (NASB)
We have a choice to make at the moment of temptation. As the scripture says, “do not let” and “do not go on,“ “but present yourselves to God.“ It seems that each time the Holy Spirit tells us to flee from something, He gives us something to run toward. As Jesus instructed, you are never going to just sweep the house clean and not fill it with something good or the bad stuff will come back greater than ever. Are you wondering why you can’t seem to have victory in your struggles? If you have a list of thou shalt nots, but no thought of what you are to fill your life with, that vacuum becomes a huge target for the enemy.
Here are a few things that you can fill that vacuum with:
- The Holy Spirit (He is your helper, counselor, comforter, and your friend): Ephesians 5:18
- Faith affirmations: Romans 10:17, James 1:21, Hebrews 11:1
- Pray the Word by faith: Ephesians 6:18
- Set up prayer targets: For example, you are having worrisome thoughts and, instead, choose to flee from these thoughts by praying for others in their need. In other words, your prayer target is about others.
What this does is totally change your focus and helps you to get back on track with right thinking.
