“Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’ But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
Psalm 3:1-3 (NIV)

Here David is faced with a very difficult situation. He was no doubt feeling very overwhelmed, heartbroken, and betrayed. Perhaps you have had times when you felt this way. Notice that David didn’t dwell on his pain, talk about his problems, and get into what we call self-pity. Instead, he told the Lord about his faith when he said, “But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.” You may be going through some tough times right now. In the middle of the night when you wake up from a deep sleep and you’re crying out to God, “I don’t understand. But God you are my peace. But God, if you be for me, who can be against me? But God, you are my healer. But God, you are my provider. But God, you are my comforter, my counselor.” You see it’s all about Him, and with Him nothing is impossible, no obstacle is too difficult, no mountain is too tall. Psalm 91:1 tells us, “He who dwells in the shelter of the most high abides in His shadow.”His shadow is all about His presence and it’s in His presence there is healing, in His presence there is peace, and in His presence, there is provision.
