Street Bean Coffee Roasters (formerly known as Street Bean Espresso) is experiencing a tremendous and exciting season of growth. The roaster and coffee shop seeks to empower street youth to reclaim their lives by offering 6-month job training apprenticeships through its partner, New Horizons Ministries.
After beginning small-batch roasting in 2015, Street Bean has grown both as a shop and a roasting operation. Thanks to its faithful partners (like LRF), its second coffee shop space opened in October in the University District in conjunction with the University District Food Bank. Adding a second shop nearly doubled the number of apprentices Street Bean is able to train each year – meaning 16 young people can participate in a job training curriculum that sees over 80% of its graduates transition into housing and employment.
In addition to expanding its number of locations, Street Bean has a ten-kilogram roaster donated by supporters of LRF, which allows for roasting much larger batches of coffee and expansion into wholesale.
Street Bean is deeply grateful to Liberty Road Foundation for playing such an integral role in these exciting expansion opportunities, and especially for providing a brand new van to help with wholesale distribution and field trips to important coffee hot spots for our apprentices.
