“MTC is a place that provides the opportunity for individuals to heal, recover, and discover who each person can be. The program is wrapping each person in a cocoon of love, respect, and support with unconditional love. The members themselves love and support one another in an amazing way. When you hear stories at commencement, it brings tears to all of our eyes. We have the opportunity to help them by cooking homemade lunches, spending time with them, hearing their stories, and loving them unconditionally. Each member is so appreciative not only for the food but the love and hugs we give them. There are seven lady friends who have worked together for seven plus years. All of us lead very busy lives. We come together twice a month to cook, serve and love these folks unconditionally. Our goal is to provide good homemade foods to fill their bellies and hear their stories. By doing this, it gives us the best feelings EVER that we are making a difference in this world and certainly making a difference with each member. Each time it is MTC day, we wake up and say, hooray, this is MTC day! We can’t wait to see who we will see and talk to today. The members work so hard and struggle to get better and lead a healthy life that is pleasing to them and their families. We have a chance in a small way to help them on their journey, filling their bellies with good homemade foods, an open ear, lots of hugs and unconditional love. We often think they are doing more for us than we could possibly do for them. We are extremely close with our team of seven ladies and work beautifully together. The members call us the Golden Girls.”

“I have been serving lunch at Matt Talbot with a group of amazing women for somewhere around 8-9 years. We began with the intention of serving lunch just one Tuesday a month. However, within a couple of months we were so hooked, we decided we needed/wanted to serve twice a month. After a few times of serving at MTC, I was able to put into words what I was experiencing: ‘When I enter this place I am standing on holy ground.’ The commitment of the staff to their clients is truly Christ-like. They are loving, firm, respectful, and compassionate. The men and women who come seeking healing, assistance, life! are doing such very hard work with a level of honesty that is truly inspiring and challenging! I receive so much more than I could ever give. Listening to their stories, cheering their successes, and grieving their missteps and their heartaches enriches my life, expanding my heart, challenging me to deeper levels of compassion and unconditional love.  Everything about my experience at MTC is blessing!”

“I love the MTC because of all the people who work there and those I volunteer with on a regular basis. Everyone is so positive and so kind. Volunteering has changed my life in so many ways. I feel like I, along with those I volunteer with, can make a difference in the lives of people who get very little, if any, encouragement from anyone else in their life. I have learned to appreciate and love them. I appreciate the hard work they put in at the Center to turn their lives around. It isn’t easy, but they do it! It is inspiring. That is also why I love them so much. I never thought volunteering could mean so much to me in the beginning , but after doing this for about 8 years, it is still the place I would rather be and where God has placed me. I encourage you to try it! You will be the one who is blessed by it!!!”

“Cooking for MTC has been a truly rewarding experience. Everyone is so thrilled with our cooking and so appreciative of our time spent making the meals for them.  They often ask why we do this for them? My only answer is that we love them and want to help them succeed in their journey. I would recommend anyone to try to get involved as there is no other greater reward than to visit with and get to know and encourage the participants on their road to recovery.”
