Substitute “Me” for “Others”

Posted on Jan 30, 2017 in WEEKLY WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT | 0 comments

“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care — then do me a favor: agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.” Philippians 2:1-4 The Message What is one of the biggest deterrents in our life that keeps us from maximizing our potential? I believe it’s the ME in our life where everything revolves around us, rather than OTHERS. Proverbs 11:25 NLT tells us, “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” It was Taft Benson who said, “Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right” and it was Spencer Campbell who said, “Humility is greatness in...

AdvoCare, Serving The Matt Talbot Center Since 2012

Posted on Jan 25, 2017 in LIBERTY ROAD FOUNDATION, LRF Faith in Action, NON-PROFIT STORIES, VOLUNTEER STORIES | 0 comments

A team of friends with AdvoCare has volunteered every month since 2012 at the Matt Talbot Center, one of LRF’s 7 non-profit partners, preparing and serving lunch to approximately 40 men and women. “We primarily serve as a function of trying to walk out and be in action with our weekly bible study that started around the same time in 2012. I think there have been two great personal benefits from us serving. -It give us an opportunity to get “outside of ourselves” for a few hours a month and allows us to focus on others. It’s amazing how quickly my spirit of gratitude is strengthened every time I go. I think of all the other people who serve there and the love they have for those who are hurting without judging. It puts my own problems in perspective and forces me to suck it up in my life. -The couple hours a month that we spend together as a group strengthens our bond and helps sharpen each other. It keeps us accountable to living a life that is above reproach. I used to be a big partier and I realize that I’m a fallible human being and one stupid decision away from negatively impacting those that I love and who I’m accountable to.” ~Mike Friedrich “My daughter was able to join me last time, and it’s great to have her experience it with us.” ~Wayne Johnson AdvoCare understands what it means to get the business community involved in the transformation of the lives of those in need. This is not a government issue, this is a community issue, and we are all in it together! AdvoCare’s mission is to help people become healthier, both physically and financially, through mentorship and motivation! This is why they incorporate volunteering as a regular part of their work lives. For more information about AdvoCare, check out their website at www.AdvoCare.com. God’s Instruments of Hope

Posted on Jan 23, 2017 in WEEKLY WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT | 0 comments

“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.” James 1:2-4 The Message Would you agree that He’s been doing some stuff in your life over this past year of 2016? You see, God never does anything in your life with the idea of wasting it or putting it on a shelf. He’s been getting you ready for 2017 because someone’s going to need you to come alongside them to speak words of healing, deliverance and hope into their life. Don’t get locked into tunnel vision but pray that the Holy Spirit will give you peripheral vision where you will recognize others in their need and will be that instrument of God’s hope and healing in their...

Posted on Jan 19, 2017 in NON-PROFIT STORIES, VOLUNTEER STORIES | 0 comments

Seven years ago, Jack Rehse, a longtime employee of Guild Mortgage Company, invited other co-workers and friends to volunteer every 1st Tuesday of the month at Jubilee REACH (one of our non-profit partners), cooking and serving breakfast to approximately 20 boys and girls who live in the low income area of Lake Hills Elementary School.   They started out serving pop tarts, and now they have a full hot breakfast with eggs, bacon, croissants, peanut butter & jelly english muffins, and fruit.     “It’s much healthier.”  ~ Jamie Morishige with Guild Mortgage Company “Serving helps me to live in gratitude.  We love serving the kids…and we’ve been able to watch them grow up!”  ~ Patty Parsons with Windermere Real Estate “There is a sense of fulfillment to serve the community in this way.”  ~ Wade Char with General Electric “We love knowing that these kids and their parents get a sense that people who don’t even know them care about them.” ~Naomi Char with Puget Sound Energy This group of volunteers understands the importance of children eating healthy and how it helps in brain development!  And to help the parents in this way has been such a help to those in need.  They are a true blessing to so many in our community!!!
