What Is Real Success?

“The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.” Proverbs 11:25 NASB John Maxwell, author and motivational speaker, said this about significance, “Do you know the difference between success and significance? I know a lot of people who believe they are successful because they have everything they want. They have added value to themselves. But I believe significance comes when you add value to others and you can’t have true success without significance.“ Success in and of itself can be self-centered but when you add significance to it you have now determined that you want to make a difference in others outside of yourself.  Ask this question of yourself: Once I’ve learned something or accomplished something do I have a heart to share it with others, or do I keep it to myself where it benefits only me?  Perhaps you exercise – run, walk, skate, jump rope, do pushups, swim or bike. And, yes, you are bringing great value to your health and you get those personal benefits but have you thought that through your exercising you can bring great value to others. I personally want to encourage you to join several of us on June 1st to make a huge difference in a whole lot of kids’ lives. Check it out at...

It’s All About Others

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others betters than himself.  Let each of you look out not only for his own interest, but also for the interest of others.” Philippians 2:3-4 NKJV We don’t naturally regard others more important than ourselves and look to their interests.  So how do you know that?  Well, how’s it going with your driving lately?  Someone needs to get into traffic and yet, if you let them in, you’ll probably miss the light and that red light is the longest in the county and you are surely going to be late to work.   Or how about this one? I love steak with the bone in it because I like to chew on the bone.  When my kids were growing up, they all liked the bone, too.  One day I was given the only steak with the bone.  Do you think I humbled myself enough to share that bone?  Check your heart.  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to be diligent in guarding your heart from pride and selfishness....

You Are a Difference Maker

“I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire.  He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.”   Psalm 40:1-3 NLT God did not lift you out of your need and change you to sit on it.  He does His work in you so you can be used by Him to do His work in someone else.  He has put an open door before you.  He has blessed you. The door is open but you have to step through it.  What He has opened no man can shut.  You have to trust Him and believe in Him.  Believe the dream that He has put within your heart.  Be strong, take action, don’t back down.  You can and will make a...

How Well Do You Respond?

Posted on May 9, 2016 in WEEKLY WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT | 0 comments

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the Shadow of the Almighty.  This I declare about the Lord:  He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.  He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings.  His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”   Psalm 91:1-4 NLT When it seems like your life is on a treadmill and it keeps going faster and faster and circumstances are as bewildering as a three-alarm fire, there are several options to choose how you respond. You can do just the opposite of Proverbs 3:5 which says, “Lean on your own strength and understanding.”  Or you can choose to bury yourself in being busy, ignoring circumstances and problems, hoping they will go away. There is a third option.  You can choose to call upon the Lord because He is your shelter, He is your rest, He is your refuge and place of safety, He is your rescuer, He is your protector, He is your defender and He promises to never leave you or forsake you. Reflection: Take a few minutes just to reflect on how well you are doing in...
